Project 3 Reflection
The first method I
used was utilizing the placement, sizing and color of the specific words that I
wanted to emphasize. The specific words I chose to emphasize were “creativity,”
“to make,” “mistakes,” “design,” and “to keep.”
In the first iteration, I emphasized words with spacing. Due to the tight restrictions, there was
little wiggle room for creativity. I
decided to choose serif fonts to communicate a certain tone with the quote, as
well as excessive returns, small type font and justifying the quote to the
corners or sides. For the second iteration, I was able to adjust the emphasis
from just focusing on justifying the entire quote, and I used a variations of
font sizes and utilized returns in each composition. In the third iteration, I
tried to utilize color, size and caps font in the compositions. I also used
multiple typefaces for one of the compositions which I felt really emphasized
the meaning of the quote. One of these
compositions I used for my final iteration.
For my final iteration, I really emphasized certain words by either
having them literally pop out of the page, using band aids over mistakes and
using proofread marks over the whole composition.
What I gained from
this experience is that quotes go much deeper than simply meaningful words on a
piece of paper or on a screen. To help
communicate the message thoroughly, you must carefully emphasize certain words
in different ways with different methods, like sizing, spacing and color. Many
people can interpret the same quote in different ways, so I was looking to make
the message of this quote look how it means to me. I liked to use rainbow
colors when I wrote, “creativity.”
I did not have
many expectations for this project. My expectations for the first iteration was
for the compositions to be very dull, but they actually turned out clean and
simple, rather than boring. For the rest
of the iterations, I was not expecting to like the compositions as much as I actually
did. After exploring how to properly place my words, and what to use emphasis
on, I was able to make a product that I was pleased with for the final
iteration. In the end, I was very pleased with my iteration 4 results. I felt
that each composition properly conveyed the quote in different ways.
